Deposits, notice, and rent in Bahrain
This guide is general information, not legal advice. Bahrain’s tenancy law protects both landlords and tenants when a proper agreement exists. Room shares sometimes use shorter informal contracts, but the same habits help everyone: write things down, keep receipts, and give notice politely.
Deposits
One month’s rent as a refundable deposit is common. The deposit should return within a reasonable time after you vacate, minus documented damage beyond normal wear. Photograph the room on arrival and departure. If a host proposes an unusually large non-refundable fee before viewing, treat that as a warning sign rather than a bargain.
Notice periods
Thirty days’ notice appears often in monthly room arrangements, but your written agreement is the source of truth. If you must leave early, say so immediately and negotiate in good faith. Burning a deposit by disappearing without word closes doors in a small expat community.

If talks stall
Keep message threads and payment records. The Rental Disputes Resolution Committee exists for formal disputes that cannot be settled privately. Most room issues never reach that stage when both sides act reasonably. Calm documentation beats angry voice notes.
